RED LAKE, ON, Aug. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, and Member of Parliament for Kenora, today announced an investment of $549,112 for the installation of an omni-directional approach lighting system, and the replacement of the airfield lighting control panel and constant current regulators at the Red Lake Airport.
This work will ensure continued safe visibility and airport operation for air carriers, passengers, employees, medical evacuations, and fire fighting operations.
Funding is provided by Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

- To date, through ACAP, the Red Lake Airport has received over $4.5 million in funding for 13 safety projects, including today's announcement.
- Previous projects included the rehabilitation of airside pavement, the replacement of a snowplow truck, and the upgrading of airfield lighting.
