Invitation - Engineering for gun control - 25th anniversary of the tragedy at l'École Polytechnique

Engineering associations and institutions are joining students and graduates of the École Polytechnique in their fight for gun control

MONTREAL, Nov. 26 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - It's at the École Polytechnique in Montreal, the place where fourteen young women were gunned down and thirteen others were injured with a legally acquired firearm, that the students who launched a petition in 1989, instigating a national movement for gun control, will gather once again twenty-five years later.

The group — which includes individual alumni who witnessed the tragedy, the student and alumni associations of Polytechnique as well as one graduate who survived her gunshot wounds and another who lost his wife in the tragedy — says they still need to fight for tougher gun control, especially at a time when a new bill aimed at further weakening existing controls (C-42) is being debated in the House of Commons.

However, this time, their efforts are supported by an array of engineering institutions and organizations.
