Invitation - News conference - Polytechnique victims, students and graduates
reach out to Jack Layton in his riding
TORONTO, Sept. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Students, graduates and families of the victims of l'École Polytechnique will unite in Jack Layton's riding to plead with the NDP leader to ensure that NDP Members of parliament do not help the Conservatives dismantle Canada's gun control law. Although Layton announced that he has persuaded enough NDP MPs to vote to block C-391, the group maintains that the vote is still much too close and that Mr. Layton must not give up on securing more pro-registry votes amongst his MPs.
Speaking to media will be Suzanne Laplante-Edward and Jim Edward, mother and father of Anne-Marie Edward who was killed at l'École Polytechnique, Polytechnique Student Association representative Michaël Lapointe, Polytechnique graduate Heidi Rathjen as well as other graduates and supporters. Hayder Kadhim, a survivor of the Dawson College shooting and close friend of Anastasia De Sousa, who died as a result of the shooting, will join the group in solidarity.

In a last ditch effort to save the registry, the group will ask Jack Layton, a long time proponent of efforts to end violence against women and founder of the 'White Ribbon Campaign', whether he still intends to let his MPs help Stephen Harper destroy Canada's gun control law. The group will ask him to consider his legacy as leader of the NDP. "Wearing a white ribbon is not enough".
The full press release of the event will be available at www.polysesouvient.ca at 10h30 on Thursday.
