Invitation to media - 600 000 social housing units across Canada are in danger: the FRAPRU, the NPD, the Liberals and the Bloc Québécois join their voices Français
OTTAWA, May 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Front d'action populaire en réaménagement urbain (FRAPRU), a Quebec umbrella group that fights for housing rights, invites you to an important press conference organized in conjunction with MPs from the New Democratic Party, from the Liberal Party of Canada, and the Bloc Québécois. The FRAPRU will present the results of an important petition campaign calling for the federal government to maintain the subsidies they have been granting for decades to 600,000 existing social housing units, of which 127,000 are in Québec.
These subsidies have already ended for a small portion of the above mentioned housing units, but the process will accelerate considerably in the coming years, thus compromising the financial accessibility of these housing units for low-income households and even opening the door to their privatization.
