MONTREAL, March 29, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Following the tabling of Bill 21, by the Quebec government on Thursday, The Canadian Muslim Forum invites you to a press conference to present the reaction of the Muslim community to the Bill.
When: 11:00 AM, Friday, March 29, 2019
Where: 3767 Boul Thimens, Bureau 260 – Montreal, H4R 1W4
"Bill 21 discriminates against many religious Quebecers, including Muslims, particularly discriminates against Muslim women. By numbers, most of its "victims" will be Muslim women." said Hanadi Saad, President of Justice Femmes.
Samer Majzoub, President of the Canadian Muslim Forum, said, "The application of this law would actually result in exact opposite of what a secular state should represent."
"When the State imposes restrictions of any kind or magnitude on a person because of his or her religious conviction, how could the State, in this case, claim to support the freedom of conscience and freedom of religion? It is, in fact, influencing people to follow, or not follow, a certain conviction," said Ehab Lotayef, a long time social justice activist.
* Religious leaders from different communities will be joining the press conference.
