THE NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
OF A MAJOR RETROSPECTIVE
A major retrospective presented by Desjardins and jointly organized with the Fondation Giacometti in Paris devoted to Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), the Swiss sculptor and painter who lived in Paris and was one of the foremost artists of the 20th century, will have its North American premiere after opening in London, then travel to New York and Bilbao.
The retrospective affords visitors an opportunity to discover the emblematic work of this artist known for his unique sculptures and inordinately elongated, highly textured figures. The Québec City exhibition will also celebrate the painter and feature paintings and original plaster casts, including several never before exhibited. Moreover, it will reveal the artist's interest in the primitive arts, his fascination with the question of resemblance, and his ties with several leading writers, including Samuel Beckett and Jean-Paul Sartre.
The retrospective encompasses numerous masterpieces, including Suspended Ball, Woman with Chariot and the celebrated Walking Man from the wide-ranging collection of the Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti in Paris. The spectacular exhibition comprises more than 110 sculptures and 50 paintings that highlight a brilliant career spanning more than five decades. The Giacometti retrospective is not to be missed!
