IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant - IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant wins International Sport Event of the Year Award from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Français
MONTREAL, April 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant have won one of the biggest 2013 PRESTIGE Awards from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA), namely, the International Sport Event of the Year Award. The award was presented at a gala lunch held on April 10 in Ottawa as part of the annual CSTA conference. Dominique Piché, delegate producer and race director for the IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant, as well as Alain Houde, managing director of Tourisme Mont-Tremblant, accepted the award on behalf of the whole IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant team.
Awarded annually to winners in six different categories, the CSTA's PRESTIGE Awards pay tribute to individuals, organizations and events that have contributed to a remarkable degree to the growth, dynamism and influence of the Canadian sport tourism industry. Presented by Tourism Winnipeg, the Award for the International Sport Event of the Year recognizes the overall success of an international sport event held in Canada in 2012.
"We are, of course, extremely proud to receive this highly prestigious award, which testifies to the incredible success of our first-ever IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant. We would like to thank the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance for having, in this manner, emphasized the scope of our efforts and our success, as well as the World Triathlon Corporation, which had confidence in us and gave us the opportunity to hold the two sections of this high-calibre event in the Mont-Tremblant area," said Dominique Piché, delegate producer and race director for the IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant.
"We would also like to express our gratitude to the whole population of the Mont-Tremblant area and particularly to the many volunteers who contributed to making this event an authentic success. Without them, nothing would have been possible. The IRONMAN is a large-scale competition that requires a substantial degree of organization, and we were fortunate enough to be able to count on the support of a particularly dynamic community and production team, which threw itself body and soul into making the Ironman a reality," added Alain Houde, managing director of Tourisme Mont-Tremblant.
The next IRONMAN 70.3 and North American Championship IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant will take place on Sunday, June 23, and Sunday, August 18, 2013, respectively.
The IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant, a huge success!
In total, 4,500 athletes from more than 50 countries - 2000 for the IRONMAN 70.3 and 2,500 for the IRONMAN - visited the Mont-Tremblant region in summer 2012 to take part in the two competitions. Accompanied by, on average, four other persons, the events generated more than 200,000 person-nights, and more than 11,000 vacationers came to help with the races, thus contributing to a tourist traffic total of 45,000 for the two sections of the event. And please note: IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant landed, early this year, second position in the popular vote to designate the best triathlon of the North American circuit. Considering that this was a first event for the region, that's quite a success!
One of the most prestigious of international events, the IRONMAN truly transformed the Mont-Tremblant region. Major infrastructure assets were constructed, and the region launched its transformation into a North American training hub, providing a complete experience and services adapted to aficionados of the Ironman, of triathlons, of foot races, of swimming and of cycling. Already, last summer, thousands of cyclists who would not otherwise have shown up appeared in the region. And in the months preceding the holding of an IRONMAN, many athletes come to train on the courses they will have to face. So everything will be in place to give them a brilliant welcome, with high calibre facilities permanently accessible and many services available.
