MONTRÉAL, June 3, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Isabelle Bonneau has been appointed the new Director General of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD), effective July 6. The appointment, approved today by the City of Montréal's executive committee, ratifies the recommendation made by the SPJD's Board of directors. Ms. Bonneau's appointment comes after the retirement of the current Director General, Ronald Cyr, who has served as the DG since April, 2015.
Ms. Bonneau, an engineer, who has a PhD in administration, has 25 years of professional experience in various fields, including transportation, municipal and public organization, engineering consulting and high technology. She has been the Director, Office of Capital Projects and Programs, City of Montréal, since February, 2019. In this capacity, Ms. Bonneau oversaw the scope, budgets and timelines for some 50 active projects, totalling more than $400 million.
"Parc Jean-Drapeau is an integral part of Montréal's identity," said Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante. "With its setting in the heart of the river, affording a one-of-a-kind view of the city, Parc Jean-Drapeau defines Montréal's insular feature, its affinity for nature, as well as its charm and joie de vivre that emanate from the major events organized at the Parc. We cherish this legacy, and it is our duty to preserve it for future generations. The arrival of Ms. Bonneau as the Director General of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau is great news. With her impressive experience, I am sure she will be able to make the Master Plan for Parc Jean-Drapeau's enhancement, conservation and development an opportunity to establish a solid foundation that will enable us to preserve and further enrich this unique area."
Robert Beaudry, the City of Montréal Executive Committee member in charge of housing, building strategy, major parks and Parc Jean-Drapeau, remarked: "Parc Jean-Drapeau is a great asset for Montréal, and its development is a priority for our administration. "There will be major changes occurring at the Parc in the coming years and, through her vision and managerial ability, Ms. Bonneau will be contributing to this transformation. I wish her the utmost success in this huge, engaging challenge, and she can be assured of my full collaboration."
Renaud Coulombe, the Chair of the SPJD Board of directors, added: "This appointment is the culmination of an extensive, step-by-step process over several months. The SPJD board members are pleased to welcome Ms. Bonneau, whose major mandate will be the implementation of the new Master Plan once it is adopted this September. I would also like to thank Ronald Cyr for his outstanding contribution to the development of Parc Jean-Drapeau and for his considerable collaboration that will enable a smooth and seamless transition in the coming weeks.
