Islamic Relief Canada launches campaign urging Canadian Muslims to donate blood during the COVID-19 crisis
TORONTO, March 19, 2020 /CNW/ - Islamic Relief Canada is urging Canadian Muslims across the country to donate blood to help prevent a national shortage of life-saving blood donations.
The Canadian Blood Services website currently indicates that the current O-negative blood type supplies can only last for two days, and all other blood types are needed as well. The COVID-19 crisis has affected the flow of blood donations.
Reyhana Patel, Head of External Relations at Islamic Relief Canada, says:
"We've been so happy to see Canadians ask us what they can do to help people affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Many of us wouldn't think of donating blood so we are asking our donors, community, friends and family to give blood so that we can ensure there is no shortage in the coming months.
Islamic Relief staff and volunteers are signing up to take part in this and are urging their communities to do the same.
The charity is encouraging everyone to check their eligibility at blood.ca/en/covid19#qas and, if they feel comfortable doing so, to book an appointment to donate blood at www.blood.ca or by calling 1-888-236-6283.
