QUEEN'S PARK, June 11 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak knows that the best way to stimulate the economy and help Ontario families is to encourage job creation. In fact, he said it was his "number one priority" (Media Availability, March 23, 2010). The experts agree - Ontario's harmonized sales tax will do just that:
- "In fact, it is [HST] the single most important step that can be taken to boost the provincial economy and create job opportunities in the future." Jason Myers, President, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association
- "… [HST] savings will help to preserve jobs in Ontario and allow companies to grow in the future." Canadian Chemical Producer's Association
- "Research by us and others shows that this is the most effective tax change to stimulate investment and job creation" Roger Martin, Dean, Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto
- "I'm quite encouraged by the fact that the government of Ontario decided to harmonize the PST with the GST. This is jobs; this is investment; this is good economic policy." Jim Flaherty, March 27, 2009
Small business operators John and Marie Voortman from Hudak's own riding agree that the HST is the right move to make Ontario more competitive:
- "The HST will benefit us in the building of our plant and in buying our equipment. The money we'll be saving will enable us to do more business and hire more employees." John Voortman, Owner, Countrywide Recycling Inc., June 1st 2010
It has been estimated that Ontario's tax reforms will increase capital investment by $47-billion, increase household incomes by 8.8% and create 600,000 net new jobs.
Tim Hudak claimed job creation was a priority, but then he voted against the McGuinty Government's plans to create 600,000 net new jobs for Ontario families. Tim Hudak also claims to oppose the HST, but won't commit to repealing.
Ontario's harmonized sales tax: it's all about the economy, Tim.
