At Burt's Bees, we can't imagine a world without bees. In fact, it's impossible since they help to sustain some of the food we consume every single day, while supporting biodiversity and sustainable land use by "kissing" flowers and providing pollination. But as hard as it is to imagine our lives without our buzzing friends, they are in trouble.
The first of the installations will be built at Toronto's City Hall from June 9th - June 24th, while the second will follow in Vancouver in June.
"Any colourful flower could be used for these installations, but it is important to Burt's Bees to source native perennials that can be replanted after the program," says Randal Heide, Executive Director, Wildlife Preservation Canada. "Not only will these plants reappear next year, and the year after that, they will actually expand and spread, forming hundreds of plant colonies. These plants will, in turn, feed countless native bees throughout the city, for as long as the plants are left undisturbed and allowed to grow."
In addition, Burt's Bees will launch limited edition #KissesForBees lipsticks ($10 each). For each lipstick sold, Burt's Bees will plant 100 wildflowers across the country to help support Canadian bee health, in partnership with Wildlife Preservation Canada. Each lipstick is 100% natural made with 60% post consumer recycled packaging and provides eight hours of moisture with ingredients such as Moringa and Raspberry Seed Oils, Vitamin E, and, of course, Beeswax.
"From the very beginning, Burt's has been a values-led brand, committed to providing natural products in a sustainable way. This is especially true in our commitment to bee health. Through our partnership with Wildlife Preservation Canada, we will plant wildflowers all across Canada, creating healthy environments for pollinators who depend on them for survival. A small purchase can make a big difference in our world." –Matthew Kohler, Vice President, Marketing, Burt's Bees Canada.
"Planting native flowers provides the most natural food source for bees, without the need for pesticides or disrupting the balance of the local ecosystem. We're really excited about this project because it will allow us to recreate healthy natural pollinator habitats in key locations across Canada, while encouraging countless Canadians to go out and do the same."—Randal Heide, Executive Director, Wildlife Preservation Canada
