Jacques-Bizard bridge - Risk of major congestion due to rising water levels

MONTRÉAL, April 28, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Boulevard Jacques-Bizard at the exit of Jacques-Bizard bridge (Pierrefonds sector side) is currently closed due to rising water levels. To enter or exit Île-Bizard, motorists must use Boulevard Gouin Ouest (rather than Boulevard Pierrefonds), and Boulevard Saint-Charles. It is expected that this could cause major traffic problems, mainly during rush hours on weekdays.

Until the situation returns to normal, citizens of Île-Bizard are invited to plan their travels accordingly. Remember that in the spring of 2017, important traffic jams were observed in this area due to similar events. To prevent such a scenario from happening again, the city invites motorists in the area to limit their travels or consider other options such as carpooling or changing travel times. In addition, in order to ensure the safety of citizens as well as traffic fluidity, the SPVM has mobilized several dozen police officers who will be assigned exclusively to this operation.

Ville de Montréal continues to monitor the situation very closely and is asking citizens to avoid unnecessary travels in flooded areas. Our teams are working relentlessly and around the clock and nothing is left to chance in ensuring that citizens in at-risk areas are well protected. A total of 43 homes have been evacuated in the West Island, 33 in the Île-Bizard—Sainte-Geneviève sector and 10 in Pierrefonds-Roxboro.
