Jacques Cartier Bridge: numerous work operations to watch for during the construction holiday at the bridge approaches and on the bike path Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, July 19, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that maintenance work will once again take place this year on the Jacques Cartier Bridge during the construction holiday. Several different work projects will be concentrated on both the bike path and bridge approaches.
During this period, from Sunday, July 21, at 2 a.m., to Monday, August 5, at 5 a.m., one lane out of five will be closed to traffic day and night. Two lanes will be kept open in each direction on the bridge.
Rush hour periods will be more difficult while this work takes place and road users are encouraged to favour the metro's yellow line as well as the bus to travel. Trains on the yellow line will have additional cars in order to meet demand during this period.
The work will then continue over two to four weekends during the summer and fall in order to be completed.
Complete and partial closure of the bike path
During the construction holiday (July 21 to August 5), the bike path (west side of the bridge) will be entirely closed to pedestrians and cyclists. A detour will be set up along the sidewalk (east side of the bridge) during those two weeks.
The section of the bike path on the South Shore side will also be closed from August 19 to September 15 (around four weeks). During this period, cyclists will be required to use the stairs located at St-Charles Street in Longueuil to access or exit the path. The bike path will be completely opened between those two periods.
Night closures for worksite mobilization
Night closures will take place on Friday (11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.), Saturday (00:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.) and Sunday (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) nights on the Jacques Cartier Bridge for the mobilization worksite.
During this period, one lane towards the South Shore and two lanes towards Montreal will be open. Some closures will also occur on the South Shore ramps.
In addition, it is very important to note that from midnight to 5 a.m. on the night of Sunday to Monday, the access to Jacques Cartier Bridge by Papineau Street North in Montréal will be completely closed. A detour will be set up to allow access to the bridge by Papineau Street South.
Numerous work activities at the bridge approaches
This work is necessary to replace the concrete guardrails on the side of the bike path, to reconfigure the Taschereau Boulevard off-ramp, to pave the bridge's road approaches on both the Montreal and South Shore sides, to seal the entire bike path, to move the street lamps and signal structures from their current position on the south section of the bike path, as well as to repair the paving of this section of the path.
