LONGUEUIL, QC, July 23, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to advise road users that due to extreme weather conditions, the opening of the lanes announced for Tuesday, July 24 at 8 AM, will be delayed to 8 PM on July 24.
The work took place at an excellent pace throughout the weekend, but the downpour which began at 5:45 PM forced the contractors to revise their work schedule. The goal is to reopen all lanes to traffic as soon as possible, therefore weather conditions are being monitored very closely. However, if current conditions persist, it will be very difficult to finalize the work before 8 PM on July 24.
A constant update of the work will be provided on our blog (www.jacquescartierbridge.ca) in order to notify users as soon as possible regarding the opening of lanes to traffic.
It is strongly recommended that road users plan alternate ways of accessing Montreal and the South Shore during rush hour on Tuesday, July 24. The metro (yellow line), buses, bikes or carpooling are excellent options for avoiding the rush hour traffic when it may be at its heaviest.
The bridge's bike path will be open during the roadwork and remains an excellent option. The Champlain, Victoria and Honoré-Mercier Bridges and the Louis-Hyppolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel are also possible options, but traffic at those locations will likely be heavy as well.
