Jacques Drouin, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, will step down on July 11 of this year

QUEBEC CITY, April 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer and Chair of the Commission de la représentation électorale du Québec, Jacques Drouin, will step down on July 11, 2014, bringing to an end a 36-year career in the Québec  civil service, including 34 years with the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (DGE). Mr. Drouin tendered his resignation yesterday to Jacques Chagnon, Speaker of the Québec National Assembly.

Mr. Drouin was appointed Chief Electoral Officer and Chair of the Commission de la représentation électorale du Québec on December 9, 2010, succeeding Marcel Blanchet. Prior to his appointment, he held various positions with the DGE, including Assistant to the Chief Electoral Officer and Director of Electoral Operations and Secretary General of the institution.

Jacques Drouin is stepping down as Chief Electoral Officer because he feels that the time has come for him to retire. He has been a dedicated and enthusiastic servant of Québec democracy and is now looking forward to enjoying retirement.
