OTTAWA, Aug. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, on behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, presented the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Mr. Jacques Israelievitch. The private ceremony took place in Toronto, Ontario. Mr. Israelievitch was appointed on May 7, 2015.

A renowned violinist, Jacques Israelievitch is an important player in our country's artistic life. For 20 years, he was the concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and contributed to its national reputation. Known as a champion of Canadian musical creation, he commissioned and debuted numerous works by Canadian composers and introduced them to an even broader audience through his recordings. A beloved teacher and mentor, notably at York University, he is also the founder of chamber ensembles and has given master classes abroad.
