MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 21, 2017 /CNW/ - The Miss Vickie's® brand today announced a voluntary recall of Jalapeño-flavoured Miss Vickie's® brand kettle cooked potato chips due to the potential presence of Salmonella in the seasoning used in the product. This action is the direct result of a supplier's recent recall of a seasoning blend which includes jalapeño powder that could contain Salmonella. Although no Salmonella was found in the finished seasoning supplied to Miss Vickie's®, the company has decided out of an abundance of caution to recall this one product.
No illnesses related to this matter have been reported to date. Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Most individuals recover without treatment. In some cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. The elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
Only Jalapeño-flavoured Miss Vickie's® potato chips are impacted by this recall that were distributed in three bag sizes nationally in Canada to grocery, drug and mass retailers, foodservice outlets and vending machines. The company is recalling the following:
