James Temerty of Northland Power Income Fund earns top spot as Ontario
Entrepreneur Of The Year
Ernst & Young recognizes inspired Canadian business leaders
TORONTO, Oct. 26 /CNW/ - James Temerty of Northland Power Income Fund has been named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 for the Ontario region.
"James has demonstrated the remarkable ability to build a successful business from the ground up," said Colleen McMorrow, National and Ontario Director of Entrepreneur Of The Year. "By boldly pursuing new ideas and empowering others to innovate, he has been able to capitalize on emerging opportunities and develop a new industry within the power sector in Canada."
Since entering the power industry as Canada's first independent power producer in 1987, Northland Power now maintains investments in operating biomass, natural gas and wind power projects, with wind solar and water power ventures under development. With unsurpassed drive and devotion, James has built a reputation across Canada for both financial and technical innovation.
For more than twenty years, James has celebrated the continuous success of Northland Power, alongside his core management team. By encouraging a culture of empowerment, innovative thinking and rational risk taking, James shares equal investment in achieving his vision for Northland Power with those who make it possible.
Pursuing his desire to affect change beyond business, James volunteers his time and financial support to numerous organizations. As chairman of the Royal Ontario Museum, James was responsible for raising the largest single fund of $250 million in Canada by a charitable organization. Honouring his heritage, James also takes an active interest in supporting projects in the Ukraine. His recent contributions include the establishment of a business school at Kiev's university and ongoing support of local orphanages.
In acknowledgment of his ongoing contribution to Canadian business and culture, James was recently appointed chair of the Advisory Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, in addition to receiving the Order of Canada, the highest honour bestowed to Canadian citizens.
"James epitomizes the entrepreneurial desire to transform industries and build communities," said McMorrow. "By breaking through barriers and paving the way for revolutionary ideas, Canadian entrepreneurs continue to restore the economy and inspire future generations of talent. We congratulate and honour the winners of this year's Entrepreneur Of The Year Ontario Awards, who continue to reveal the power of innovation."
