MONTREAL, Sept. 5, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal International Black Film Festival, created by the Fabienne Colas Foundation and presented by Quebecor, will launch its 14th edition with the Canadian Premiere of writer-director Jamie Jones' OBEY, on Tuesday, September 25, 7PM at Imperial Theatre. Winner of Best Cinematography in an international feature film at the Tribeca Film Festival, OBEY is Jamie Jones' first narrative feature and will kick off MIBFF's official competition. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film director.
"Obey, which offers a raw look at one young man's struggle to better himself in a world that appears to be set against him, will knock you off your seat and make you think. It's a thrill to be opening the 14th annual Montreal Intl Black Film Festival with such a powerful film. A must-see movie!" - said Fabienne Colas, President and founder of MIBFF.
As London slides towards a time of violent social unrest, on the estates of East London, a young man's life is torn apart by a love for a girl from a different place.
Jamie Jones is the award-winning director of The Nest, a short film starring Vicky McClure. Obey, Jones's first feature, addresses themes that he continues to explore in his all films: why poverty is so often linked to violence, and why it so often pushes people to extremes.
