TORONTO, June 5, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) named Jane Allison, APR, FCPRS, Manager, Community Partnerships, The Hamilton Spectator the 2014 recipient of the CPRS Mentor of the Year Diamond Jubilee Award. Allison was recognized for exemplifying the critical role that mentoring plays in the advancement of the public relations profession. She accepted her certificate at the CPRS National Awards Gala on May 27 in Banff, AB.
"Being a mentor is great for both parties - we both feel great about the process," said Jane Allison. "I had great mentors when I was starting out - still do - and it made a real impact on me and my career. I love the idea of paying it forward."
The Mentor of the Year award, established to celebrate CPRS' 60th Anniversary, recognizes the outstanding effort of an accredited public relations practitioner who consistently and actively mentors public relations practitioners to advance in their careers. The award recipient demonstrates a commitment to speaking to post-secondary students, encouraging internships in the workplace, fostering exemplary relationships in the profession and serving the profession.
"I have known Jane for six years, both as a public relations student and through the CPRS Hamilton Society," said Christina Jean Pierre, Allison's nominator for the award. "She is an active participant of the Mentorship program, and her level of involvement and contribution demonstrates Jane's leadership style and ability to be a role model to young practitioners."
The Mentor of the Year Diamond Jubilee Award was one of several Major Awards presented at this year's awards gala. The Major Awards recognize exceptional involvement in the public relations profession and candidates are nominated by peers.
