Sunday Nights Bring Grins and Gladiators to HBO Canada, The Movie Network and Movie Central
HBO's groundbreaking Emmy®-nominated series Girls returns for its second season beginning Sunday, January 13 at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada. Created by and starring Lena Dunham, the series takes a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s in New York City. Following Girls at 9:30 p.m. ET/MT is Season 2 of HBO's Enlightened, starring Laura Dern in her Golden Globe®-winning role. The series tells the story of an ambitious executive at a global conglomerate, who returns to her fractured life after a humiliating public breakdown, determined to lead a more enlightened existence.
On The Movie Network and Movie Central, beginning Sunday, January 27 at 10 p.m. ET/ MT, swords and sandals come to Sunday nights as Spartacus: War of the Damned, the final season of Starz' Spartacus saga, debuts. The final episodes take place following the defeat of Roman commander Gaius Claudius Glaber as Spartacus and his men have amassed major victories against the Romans after the Battle of Vesuvius. The series stars Liam McIntyre as Spartacus.
Monday Nights Get Edgy with Showtime's hit series on The Movie Network and Movie Central
Beginning Monday, January 14, The Movie Network and Movie Central present the best of Showtime with the return of three salacious and sexy comedies. At 9 p.m. ET/MT the twisted family dramedy Shameless, starring William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum and Canada's Justin Chatwin, is back for Season 3. The new season continues to follow the Gallagher family as they each seek their own unique version of the American Dream.
At 10 p.m. ET/MT, Don Cheadle returns in his Emmy®-nominated role for a second season of House of Lies, a timely comedy that dives head-first into the shark tank known as corporate America. The series also stars Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz and Josh Lawson. Rounding out the Monday night line-up at 10:30 p.m. ET/MT is Season 6 of Californication, starring David Duchovny in his Golden Globe®-winning role as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody. In the new season, Hank's hit novel is being turned into a Broadway production while he continually struggles to be a good father to his college-aged daughter Becca, while still carrying a torch for her mother, and his ex-girlfriend, Karen.
Friday Nights Full of Action and Laughs on HBO Canada
On Friday, January 4, HBO Canada presents the premiere of Transporter: The Series, the action-packed Canada/France co-production starring Chris Vance. The high-octane series follows the adventures of professional transporter Frank Martin, who can always be counted on to get the job done and deliver his package. Transporter: The Series will debut at 9 p.m. ET/MT with a special two-hour premiere, with subsequent episodes premiering Friday nights at 9 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada.
On Friday, January 11, Banshee, CINEMAX's new action/drama series from Alan Ball, joins HBO Canada's Friday night line-up. The series will air at 11 p.m. ET/MT and stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Pa., where he continues his criminal activities, even as he's hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier.
When HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher returns for its 11th season on Friday, January 18, featuring Maher and his panel of political pundits, celebrity guests and New Rules, it will also join Friday nights in its regular 10 p.m. ET/MT timeslot.
In Eastern Canada, all programming will be available in High Definition and on demand, and on HBO Canada OnLine with Bell TV Online, Rogers Anyplace TV and Videotron's Illico Web. In Western Canada, programming will be available in High Definition on HBO Canada HD, and on demand and online with HBO Canada On Demand with participating service providers.
