Community Gym empowers local youth while celebrating commitment to Quebec communities
MONTREAL, Sept. 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Today Tangerine teamed up with NBA-star and Montreal-native Joel Anthony to host its very first Community Gym event in Quebec. As part of Tangerine's #BrightWayForward program launched earlier this year, this Community Gym event celebrated the Bank's 's lasting investment in the Montreal area by announcing long-term partnerships with Basketball Québec, Centraide of Greater Montreal (United Way) and YMCA Downtown Montreal.
Taking place at École Lucien-Pagé, today's Community Gym engaged more than 100 youth ages 9-13 in the Montreal area through empowerment and basketball skills training led by Basketball Québec, Canada Basketball and Joel Anthony himself. The day also featured an inspiring performance by UNITY Charity, a group dedicated to empowering youth through positive expression.
Tangerine's new #BrightWayForward sponsorship and community investment program focuses on building up confident, optimistic individuals to become the backbones of strong communities. By working with partners across the county, Tangerine is able to bring this to life through a variety of programming focused on empowerment, including the basketball and leadership training featured at the Community Gym today.
"Our #BrightWayForward program builds on our strong legacy of giving back to communities across Canada including Montreal, which is home to one of our five Tangerine café locations," says Nora Gorman, Managing Director of Communications at Tangerine. "We're honoured to be joined by Joel Anthony here today to celebrate this long-term commitment alongside our new partners and program participants."
This event follows Community Gyms held earlier this year in Toronto and Vancouver. To learn more about Tangerine's sponsorship and community investment activities, please visit brightwayforward.ca.
