John F.T. Scott Recognized at Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards Gala Dinner
TORONTO, May 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Retail Council of Canada is honoured to recognize John F.T. Scott for his many years of service to the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) and for his unwavering commitment to the growth and wellbeing of independent grocers across Canada. John will be honoured at the Grand Prix Gala Dinner on June 5, 2013 at the Toronto Congress Centre.
"There has never been a better ambassador for independent grocers in Canada than John. His deep knowledge of the sector, his dedication to the membership and the Board of Directors, his sense of community, his passion and his sense of humour have all been great assets to CFIG and the industry as a whole," noted Brent Battistelli of Battistelli's Independent Grocer, Chair of the Board of CFIG.
John F.T. Scott has been President and CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers (CFIG) since 1991. He joined CFIG after a decade of running his own economic consulting firm. As the head of CFIG, John oversaw numerous programs and initiatives that fostered community among independent grocers, equipping and enabling independent, franchised and specialty grocers for sustainable success.
"An outstanding advocate for CFIG members, John stood out as a knowledgeable and highly respected association executive. His unwavering commitment to independent grocers and to the industry as a whole continues to serve as a benchmark for other executives to emulate," added Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO, Retail Council of Canada.
Throughout his career, John has remained involved in a number of industry and government initiatives. He has been the Ontario member to the Canadian Agri Food Policy Institute (CAPI); and is the Chair of the Board of the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. In November 2009, he was the recipient of the Golden Pencil, which is the highest honour awarded by the retail food Industry in Canada.
