John Ryan wins Gold Standard Award in governance
OTTAWA, March 10 /CNW Telbec/ - John Ryan, President and Acting CEO of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC), is the 2010 winner of the Gil Bennett Gold Standard Award presented by The Directors College, Canada's leading university-accredited director education program.
"John Ryan is a champion of good governance and modern governance reform. He has shown an unwavering commitment to governance education," said Dr. Chris Bart, Principal & Lead Professor, The Directors College.
Founded by The Conference Board of Canada and the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, The Directors College is Canada's gold standard in director education. It is the first university-accredited director education program in the country that leads to the internationally recognized Chartered Director (C.Dir) professional designation.
The Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants is the federally designated regulator for immigration consultants in Canada. Its mandate is to protect consumers of immigration consultants through the education, testing and discipline of its members. Since CSIC was created in 2004, Mr. Ryan has played a central role in creating the rules, regulations, policies and procedures that have made CSIC a successful regulator.
Mr. Ryan received the award at The Directors College graduation ceremony on Tuesday, February 23. Named in honour of former Canadian Tire chairman Gil Bennett, the Gold Standard Award has been presented annually since 2006 to a graduate of The Directors College who demonstrates dedication to raising the bar for professional standards in corporate governance, both through their progress in the Chartered Director program and in their experience as directors. Previous winners include Don McCreesh, Michael MacBean, and Andy Poprawa.
