Join us for the Seventh Annual Strides for Melanoma Walk for Awareness In 19 Cities across Canada on Sunday, September 23, 2018 Français
OAKVILLE, ON, Sept. 13, 2018 /CNW/ - Melanoma Network of Canada (MNC), the country's leading voice for melanoma patients nationally, will host the seventh annual Strides for Melanoma Walk for Awareness on Sunday, September 23, 2018. The efforts help to raise much needed funds for melanoma patient support programs, prevention efforts and increased awareness with 19 physical walk locations and one online virtual walk. To register to walk or for more information, visit www.melanomanetwork.ca.
"Strides for Melanoma Walk for Awareness is the largest fundraising effort of the year, raising funds for national patient support programs and prevention efforts for this potentially fatal form of skin cancer," states Annette Cyr, Founder and Chair of the Board of the Melanoma Network of Canada. "With thousands of Canadians being diagnosed with melanoma each year, education and prevention is key, especially when considering that this disease has one of the highest cure rates of all cancers."
Melanoma Network of Canada hopes to educate Canadians on the harmful effects of UV rays from the sun and artificial sources and advocates for regular skin check-ups with a dermatologist. This year, at the Toronto walk location, MNC has partnered with MedX Health Corp., and Primacy Management Inc. to bring licensed clinical practitioners to facilitate skin scans that help detect melanoma early-on, so Canadians have the best chance possible at treatment and survival.
"Melanoma is one of the top seven most frequent occurring cancers in Canada and is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in youth ages 15-29," said Scott Spearn, President, MedX Health Corp. "We've partnered with Primacy's health care practitioners to bring hand-held imaging devices to the Strides walk to provide pain-free, non-invasive imaging to evaluate all types of moles or skin lesions."
Roughly 7,300 Canadians (4,000 males and 3,300 females) will be newly diagnosed with melanoma in 2018, yet most individuals don't believe they're at risk. Melanoma can affect anyone regardless of sex, age or race. To register to walk or for more information, visit www.melanomanetwork.ca.
