Joint Review Panel for the Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant Project
Requests Additional Information from Ontario Power Generation

OTTAWA , Feb. 3 /CNW Telbec/ - The Joint Review Panel for the Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant Project today requested that the project proponent, Ontario Power Generation, provide additional information in support of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site. Additional information is required to ensure that the proponent's documentation adequately addresses the guidelines issued to Ontario Power Generation on March 12, 2009 .

The EIS and the licence application are intended to examine the potential environmental effects of all phases of the project and address all requirements of a Licence to Prepare a Site.

The Joint Review Panel initiated a six-month public comment period on the EIS and licence application documentation in November 2009 . The end date of the comment period, which was originally scheduled for May 2010 , will now be extended as a result of the information request. The Panel will announce the new comment period deadline when it receives the requested information from Ontario Power Generation. Consequently, Canadians will have a longer time period to review and comment on the EIS and the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site.

The public may continue to submit written comments on the EIS and the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site to the addresses below. All of the information relating to the review is posted on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca, reference number 07-05-29525. Paper or electronic copies of the documents are also available for public viewing at Ontario Power Generation's Community Kiosk, Bowmanville Mall, 243 King Street East , Bowmanville, Ontario. About the Project

The project is a proposal by Ontario Power Generation for the site preparation, construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of up to four new nuclear reactors at its existing Darlington Nuclear site located near Oshawa, Ontario, in the Municipality of Clarington. The project is expected to generate approximately 4800 megawatts of electricity for delivery to the Ontario grid.
