MONTREAL, June 14, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On June 12, 2012, 40 Palais des congrès de Montréal employees took part in the fifth annual Journée Coup de Pouce, a day devoted to community work in support of Montréal organizations. The day helped raise participants' awareness on the issues surrounding homelessness, the city's youth and urban environment by providing them with the opportunity to actively contribute to the activities of various organizations, made possible with the collaboration of the Société de développement social de Ville-Marie.
"Journée Coup de Pouce exposes our employees to the importance of sustainability firsthand and in all its forms - environmental, social and economic - by giving them the opportunity to provide tangible assistance to organizations needing a helping hand," declared Marc Tremblay, the Palais' President and Chief Executive Officer.
Throughout the day, the employees were split into teams and worked with five Montréal community groups: Les Amis de la montagne, the Éco-Quartier Peter-McGill, Spectre de rue, the Welcome Hall Mission and En Marge 12-17. Each employee lent a hand primarily by performing cleaning tasks, serving meals, sorting clothes, or planting trees and shrubs.
Added the Palais' Human Resources Associate Director Robert Lessard, "in addition to being a mobilizing event for our employees, Journée Coup de Pouce gives our staff a chance to contribute their skills and interact directly with the people who work for and benefit from these reputable community organizations."
The Palais des congrès de Montréal introduced Journée Coup de Pouce in 2008, as part of its 25th anniversary activities.
