JUNO Award Winners Set to "Make Some Noise" in the library
Jully Black, Buck 65 join the library's fall concert line-up
TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Toronto Public Library's award-winning Make Some Noise series gets underway for the fall with free, all-ages live music concerts and workshops. Thanks to support from the Ontario Media Development Corporation, the library is partnering this year with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and the JUNO Awards to bring the best in live music to the stacks.
The JUNOS, which is being held in Toronto in March 2011, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Very special shows are booked with JUNO winners:
Who: Buck 65 Where: Bloor/Gladstone Branch, 1101 Bloor Street West When: Friday, October 15, 2010 at 8 p.m. Who: Jully Black Where: York Woods Library Theatre, 1785 Finch Avenue West When: Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 8 p.m.
The Make Some Noise...Take Some Noise program brings the library's local music collection of nearly 900 CDs to life in the stacks of branches around the city. The initiative, which won the Ontario Library Association's 2009 Media and Communications Award, provides people of all ages an opportunity to see Toronto's hottest indie bands live for free at their library branches. Workshops are also booked to encourage participation in the arts, especially for youth, and help develop employment opportunities through education and awareness.
Through their support of Make Some Noise, partners Soundscapes music store, Exclaim! magazine and the Polaris Music Prize continue to provide an invaluable contribution to helping the library support local music in Toronto.
In addition to the JUNO winners, the fall series will feature two more free concerts and two free workshops:
