QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 9, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The Videotron Centre has become a major player on the sports and entertainment scene. The recently opened venue is already one of Canada's 5 busiest arenas, according to the respected Pollstar site. With more than 223,000 concert tickets sold in 2016, the Videotron Centre ranks 5th in the land, right after Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver, Canada's long-established dominant markets.
"We have accomplished a great deal in a very short space of time and the numbers confirm that a major multipurpose venue is indeed viable in the Québec City market," said Michel Granger, Vice President, Concerts & Creative Content of Quebecor Sports & Entertainment. "The public is supporting the Videotron Centre by buying tickets and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them."
A string of headliners performed at the Videotron Centre in 2016, including Muse (2 shows), Rihanna, Pearl Jam, Justin Bieber, Bryan Adams and Céline Dion, who sold out the hall for five nights. The star-studded schedule made the Videotron Centre one of Canada's top-drawing arenas.
The line-up for 2017 is equally impressive, featuring artists such as Maroon 5, The Weekend, Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Roger Waters. Talks are underway with other top acts to round out the schedule.
Pollstar is the international concert industry's bible. Every year, the respected website publishes a list of the 200 venues in the world that sold the most tickets in the previous year.
