TORONTO, May 23, 2012 /CNW/ - Let the shrieking begin! MuchMusic announced earlier today on a special episode of NEW.MUSIC.LIVE., a heavy-hittin' all-Canadian line up of global chartbusting performers for the 2012 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS. Calling in to NML to announce his own attendance, Canadian superstar and MMVA nominee, Justin Bieber will drop a sonic boom at Much HQ in Toronto. Also confirmed to light up the stage is JUNO and Grammy®-winning global phenomenon, record producer and actress Nelly Furtado.  Additional performers set to rock the block are singer-songwriter sensation Carly Rae Jepsen and pop/rock band Marianas Trench. These MMVA UR FAVE performers join previously announced electro-pop 2012 MMVA co-hosts and performers, LMFAO, and global pop superstar performer, Katy Perry. The 2012 MMVAs get down on Sunday, June 17 at 9 p.m. ET, on Much in Canada and Fuse in the U.S., with the MMVAs RED CARPET SPECIAL at 8 p.m. ET in both countries.

Justin Bieber
From a humble upbringing in Stratford, ON, this 18 year-old pop/R&B singer-songwriter, musician and actor is so much more than a household name; he's a superstar of intergalactic proportions. His albums, My World and My World 2.0, have been certified multi-platinum and both debuted at #1. To date, Justin has amassed more than 15 million in worldwide CD sales, including just under a million albums and 2 million combined digital singles in Canada. With 5 MMVAs under his accomplished belt, including a tie with Drake for Best International Video - Canadian in 2011, it's safe to say that Much fans have a serious case of Bieber fever. Nelly Furtado
Since 2001, Victoria-born Nelly Furtado has racked up five MMVA's, including Favourite Canadian Artist in 2002. Her multi-cultural sound has solidified Furtado as a Grammy-winning global phenomenon, thanks to the tremendous success of singles "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light." Her second album, Folklore took Nelly's musical expression to the next level, confirming her creative capacity with songs like "Powerless (Say What You Want)", the ballad "Try", or "Força", which became the official anthem of the 2004 European Football Championship. From the 2006 release of Loose, came the chart topping single "Promiscuous" - an instant hit, earning her the #1 spot at the Billboard Hot 100.  Nelly's fourth album, Mi Plan, her first collection of pop songs in Spanish, pays tribute to the beauty and cultural diversity of this planet. Set for release on Sept. 18, 2012, Nelly's forthcoming album, the musically eclectic The Spirit Indestructible, finds her working with an array of collaborators from across the musical spectrum. In total, Furtado has sold more than 16 million albums and 18 million singles worldwide. She has racked up many international honours, including 10 JUNO Awards, two Grammy Awards®, a BRIT Award, a Latin Grammy Award and a World Music Award.

Carly Rae Jepsen
Without a little bit of Curiosity, Vancouver-based musician and CANADIAN IDOL Season 5 contestant Carly Rae Jepsen would never have left her Mission, B.C. hometown for the life of a singer-songwriter. So far, her career has produced an acclaimed debut album (2008's Tug of War), MuchMusic Video Award nominations, two gold-certified singles ("Bucket," "Tug of War") and — to top it all — two 2010 JUNO Award nominations for Best New Artist and Songwriter of the Year. Carly's hit single, "Call Me Maybe", which has over 61 million views on Vevo, is currently #1 on US iTunes charts and has been #1 in multiple other countries.  It has also gone platinum in the US and 4x platinum in Canada and Australia. Carly has recently appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (introduced by Justin Bieber), Good Morning America, and The View.  Carly has earned four nominations for the 2012 MMVAs, making her the third most nominated artist this year.

Marianas Trench
Formed in Vancouver in 2001, JUNO Award-nominated rock/pop band Marianas Trench is no stranger to the MMVA's, lighting up the stage in both 2009 and 2010. With a whopping seven nominations for the 2012 MMVAs, the band is undoubtedly dominating this year's awards show and for good reason. The band's third studio album Ever After,  a single 54 minute track, reached gold status in the first week of release resulting so far in two #1 music videos for "Haven't Had Enough" and "Fallout" which have also surpassed platinum single sale status in Canada. From their impressive concept albums to explosive music videos, the guys in Marianas Trench never fail to impress their fans.
