MONTRÉAL, June 9, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - The CPQ (Conseil du patronat du Québec) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Karl Blackburn as CPQ President and CEO. This unanimous decision was made by the CPQ's board of directors as part of the governance and management transition plan made public last week on June 2. Mr. Blackburn's mandate will commence on June 29, 2020, as he takes the reins from outgoing President and CEO Yves-Thomas Dorval. Mr. Dorval will take on a new mandate as Executive Chairman of the CPQ board following the organization's annual general meeting to be held on June 19.
Incoming President and CEO Karl Blackburn is delighted about embarking on this new professional endeavour:
"It is with much humility that I accept this appointment and acknowledge the gesture of trust extended to me by the Board with this decision. At this historically significant juncture, I am overjoyed by this exceptional opportunity to contribute in my own way to the next chapter in our wonderful, albeit still young, collective history. While disruption continues to impact our lives, our economy and our ways of doing business, it becomes more important than ever to come together and rally our efforts to forge our way towards a safe and sustainable economic recovery. The Québec of tomorrow will be a reflection of our collective efforts today."
Outgoing CPQ board chairman Marc-André Roy wished to underscore the calibre of the board's unanimous appointment:
"Mr. Blackburn is uniquely qualified to take the helm of the CPQ and represent Québec's employers during this time of great upheaval. As a family entrepreneur from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and backed by years of experience working with national and international business organizations, Mr. Blackburn brings us a wholly unique perspective on the richness of our province's business ecosystem. His social engagement and political experience also grant him a real understanding of the practicalities and inner workings of governmental and parliamentary structures while his forthcoming transition from CPQ board member to CPQ President and CEO ensures him a complete view of the organization's positions, priorities and strategic plan."
