Kenora School Board Representative to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Al Wray of Keewatin-Patricia District School Board will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 26, 2012 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Wray is the Safe and Supportive Schools Coordinator for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board in Kenora. One of his key responsibilities is the development and implementation of school emergency response procedures. For the 22 schools within the school board, Wray devised a very simple but effective, colour-coded emergency guide. The guide outlines potential emergencies and specific directions that must be followed to address each one. All school classrooms in the District, and many health agencies, now have this standardized response guide in place. The guide enhances the abilities of emergency responders to effectively respond to incidents.
"Al recognized the importance of a standardized emergency guide and worked hard to get all of the participating agencies on board," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal. "On the heels of this success, Al has offered this resource and his expertise to other school boards in Northwestern Ontario."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Domino's Pizza of Canada, Electrical Safety Authority, Canadian Standards Association Group and Enbridge Gas Distribution.
