1, 2011
TORONTO, Oct 6 /CNW/ - CTVglobemedia Inc. today announced that Kevin Crull will join the company as its Chief Operating Officer, effective January 1, 2011. Crull will report directly to Ivan Fecan, President and Chief Executive Officer, CTVglobemedia, and Chief Executive Officer, CTV Inc.
"Kevin Crull has a great reputation as a seasoned executive leader and innovator in Canadian communications and is well regarded in the industry for his deep understanding of both digital and conventional media," said Fecan. "By building industry-leading distribution and delivering world-class content to Canadians when, where and how they want it, he has built Bell's TV, broadband and online portal businesses into digital media leaders. I am very pleased to bring Kevin's proven strategic and operational expertise to CTVglobemedia."
"I'm thrilled to be joining the world-class leadership team at CTVglobemedia. We have a game-changing opportunity ahead to deliver media properties across multiple platforms as technology and viewer appetites evolve," said Crull. "Combining Bell's network and service assets with Canada's leading media company represents a unique opportunity to lead the rapidly evolving media landscape to make entertainment more engaging, more accessible and more relevant for all customers."
Fecan has announced that he will retire on the completion of Bell's acquisition of CTV, at which time Crull will assume the position of President of CTV.
Crull is currently President of Bell Residential Services, Bell Canada's largest wireline division, responsible for Bell Internet, Bell Satellite TV, Bell Fibe TV, the Sympatico online portal, and Bell Home Phone. Since joining Bell five years ago, Crull has led Bell TV to its position as the fastest growing and largest digital TV provider in Canada, expanding from just 20 HD channels in 2005 to more than 100 today - the most of any TV provider in Canada.
Crull most recently oversaw the launches of Bell Fibe Internet and Bell Fibe TV, a next-generation television service operating on broadband fibre networks that is now available in Toronto and Montreal.
On September 10, 2010, Bell announced it would acquire 100% of CTV in order to enhance Bell's ability to deliver leading video and other media services across its fast-growing broadband fibre and high-speed wireless networks. The transaction is subject to customary approvals, including approvals from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and the Competition Bureau. Closing of the transaction is expected by mid-2011.
