Kia Canada reveals all-new 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup at the Montreal International Auto Show

• Longer and wider, the all-new Forte5 combines European-influenced style with the practicality of a hatchback
• The all-new Forte Koup and Forte 5-Door receive new 2.0L turbo powertrains providing exceptional performance
• Both vehicles will be available at Canadian dealerships in Q1 2014

MONTREAL, Jan. 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Kia Canada Inc. has reunited the Forte family at the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) as they revealed pricing and content detail of the all-new 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door hatchback and Forte Koup today. Both vehicles will be available in Canadian dealership showrooms in Q1 2014.

As second-generation iterations of both the Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup, the two vehicles have an eye-catching European-inspired design that are complemented by an available 1.6-litre gasoline direct injection (GDI) twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.

Building off the 2014 Forte sedan sibling, the all-new 2014 Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup offer two distinct engine choices among their respective trims. The Forte 5-Door is offered in eight trims, ranging from LX+ MT to SX AT Luxury, with the base engine consisting of a 2.0-litre GDI four-cylinder, producing a healthy 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft. of torque through a 6-speed manual transmission. Conversely, the Forte Koup  offers 6 trims, ranging from EX MT to SX AT Luxury and is outfitted with the same base powerplant as the Forte 5-Door. The performance-oriented SX trims for both vehicles come standard with a hard-charging 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbo four cylinder, a first for the Forte line. Dependent on the desired trim, both available engines are capable of being mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optional 6-speed automatic featuring steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Stunning European Design Language:
Conceived under the watchful eye of Kia President and chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, the Forte 5-Door has a sophisticated hatchback profile with aggressive posture, while the Koup's sporty two-door profile and swooping roofline provide the two vehicles with dramatically different appearances that are equally as aggressive and athletic. The chiseled bodies command attention and continue Kia's tradition as a design leader in the industry.

Similar to the Forte sedan counterpart, the Forte 5-Door and Koup swept-back headlights stretch deep into the front fenders and the raked windshield and broad shoulders give the front end a sleek, sporty appearance. Extra-large LED positioning lights add a premium look to the front fascia. Moving around the vehicle, the available large 18-inch machined-finish wheels fill the wheel wells on the SX, and the available LED 'Light Bar' tail lights complete the upmarket appearance while coupled with the rear valance featuring twin chrome exhaust tips.

Sporty Cabin with Premium Features:
Inside, the Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup feature premium materials and soft touch points. Large, easy-to-read, white-on-black gauges nestle deeply into the instrument cluster. Chrome accents around the HVAC controls and optional push-button start, along with carbon fibre-textured materials on the dash and seats, add a sporty touch. A grippy leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob are further evidence of the pair of Fortes performance aspirations. Impressive available features such as front and rear heated outboard seats, a cooled/ventilated driver's seat and driver-selectable electric steering, which is tuned more aggressively on SX trims, further set the Forte 5-Door and Koup apart from the competition.

Dynamic Driving Experience:
The all-new Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup are the most powerful Fortes built by Kia to date, utilizing an available 1.6-litre GDI twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Power is seamlessly transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or available automatic transmission. The GDI powerplant produces 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750-4,500 rpm. The advanced powertrain features double overhead cams with dual-cam variable valve timing to help improve efficiency and performance.

Both the Forte 5-Door and Koup come standard with a 2.0-litre GDI powerplant producing 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm. During durability testing, the engines are run 300 continuous hours at redline under full load and then for an additional 20 hours at 10 per cent above redline under full load.

To help further improve performance, the pair of vehicles feature sport-tuned suspensions with a McPherson strut setup in the front and a torsion beam rear design. Both vehicles ride on standard 205/55R-16 tires, while 225/40R-18 tires are included with the SX trims for an even more dynamic driving experience.

Advanced Technology and Premium Features:
In keeping with the complete Forte family, all Fortes offer an impressive array of amenities and technology. Standard on the Koup EX MT and Forte 5-Door LX+ MT are Bluetooth wireless technology, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, steering wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, front fog lights, heated side view mirrors, power windows and door locks and heated front seats.

The SX trims on both the all-new 2014 Forte 5-Door and Forte Koup offer 18-inch allow wheels, dual stainless steel exhaust tips, and LED 'Light Bar' tail lights. They also have an aggressive front fascia with larger bumper and grille openings, black gloss grille inserts, larger front brakes, alloy sport pedals as well as front and rear seats with carbon fibre-style accents. The lower front fascia and rear valance on both vehicles also include carbon fibre-look trim.

Also available on various trims are optional Xenon HID headlights, navigation, sunroof, heated steering wheel, 10-way adjustable power driver's seat, cooled/ventilated driver's seat, leather-trimmed seating surfaces, SmartKey with push-button start, electric chromatic rearview mirror and dual-zone automatic climate control.
