TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Kia Canada presented two all-new vehicles to the Kia product portfolio for 2013 at the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) today. The North American reveal of the all-new 2014 Rondo Urban Utility Vehicle (UUV) and Canadian reveal of the 2014 Cadenza premium sedan continues to elevate the brand's product lineup to new heights. Both vehicles bring a host of new features, technology and world class designs, continuing from the recent unveilings of the all-new 2014 Forte sedan and 2014 Sorento Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) revealed last month at the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS). Kia Canada plans to release a total of nine all-new or significantly enhanced vehicles throughout 2013.
"Kia has commenced an aggressive launch of new vehicles for 2013 that will continue to enhance our product portfolio and showcase our world class design, safety and technology." said Maria Soklis, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). "The all-new Rondo offers versatility while the all-new Cadenza premium sedan exudes luxury and is the most technologically advanced Kia in Canada."
2014 Kia Rondo: Urban Utility Made Easy
The all-new Kia Rondo UUV is designed and engineered from a clean sheet to meet the needs of modern families with sleek aerodynamics and a world-class design, blending contemporary and distinctive exterior styling with a fresh, trendy interior.
Infused Style and Practicality
From the ground up, the Rondo is a completely new model. Its sleek and sculpted design marks a dramatic shift away from the look of its predecessor. A dynamic front end, smooth slopes back towards the rear offering a visual delight for the segment. With available 18" machined-finish alloy wheels, High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon projector headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED light bar technology taillights, night or day, the Rondo exudes an unmistakable presence whether in motion or parked.
The Rondo continues to build on the functionality, flexibility, adaptability and versatility that the Rondo is known for, namely its availability of five or seven passenger seating. The sophisticated front-end, featuring Kia's new interpretation of the signature grille, flows into a sporty profile silhouette. With generously proportioned cargo space, numerous stowage spaces and a luxurious interior, the all-new Rondo will impress equally from the exterior to interior.
"I wanted to give the new Rondo a sleeker look and feel, to create a design that envelops its functionality and versatility in something altogether more athletic and dynamic," says Peter Schreyer, Kia's chief of design.
All-new Powertrain
Rondo's re-invention remains to have a strong emphasis on comfort and driving fun. Beneath the hood there is a new 2.0-litre gasoline direct injection (GDI) four cylinder engine, producing an estimated 164 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque, using either a 6-speed manual or an available 6-speed automatic transmission. The new automatic delivers faster acceleration from low speeds and greater refinement at high speeds.
Welcoming Interior
Stepping inside the 2014 Rondo, passengers will first notice an available large panoramic sunroof and available luxurious high-grade leather with 2nd and 3rd row seating that can fold completely flat, offering various seating configurations and an endless amount of passenger and cargo options.
The dashboard has been thoughtfully laid out, focusing on an ergonomic driver outlook while an extensive list of comfort and luxury features will keep the driver and all passengers content during any journey.
While the Rondo is a family-focused vehicle, driver comfort in every model is assured thanks to the tilt-and-telescopic adjustable steering wheel, height adjustable driver's seat and the adoption of an organ type accelerator pedal pivoting on the floor, matching the natural movement of a foot engaging a control pedal.
Standard interior features on the 2014 Rondo includes air conditioning, 2nd row heating and cooling air vents, power windows, heated front seats, a six speaker audio system and keyless entry with power locks. The 2014 Rondo interior also offers an available heated steering wheel, heated front and second row seating, cooled ventilated driver seat, automatic dual-zone climate control, 10-way power driver's seat with an extendable cushion optimizing thigh support, SuperVision instrument cluster, large TFT LCD screen and family-friendly manual integrated side window blinds. The Rondo interior will come equipped with black cloth with optional availability of black or black and beige two-tone high-grade leather.
Safety and Technology
As always, safety has been paramount. The 2014 Rondo has a full suite of advanced active safety, features such as standard electronic stability control (ESC), hill-start assist control (HAC), four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist system (BAS), electronic brake distribution and Kia's advanced Vehicle Stability Management System (VSM), which assists in under and over steer conditions as well as in split-traction braking situations. The available rear parking sensors and rear-view camera on equipped models also offers extended safety when reversing.
The Rondo will also offer FlexSteer - giving the driver the ability to choose between comfort, normal and sport-tuned steering settings on the fly.
The all-new 2014 Rondo will stand out in a segment of its own with its world-class design, European-inspired high-grade interior and continued versatility and flexibility that Canadian's have come to admire.
