Kijiji Daily Deals harnesses the power of group buying just in time for the
holiday season

Service starts with 60% discount offer from Indigo Books & Music

TORONTO, Nov. 30 /CNW/ - Canada's most popular online classifieds website, Kijiji.ca today launched Kijiji Daily Deals to give online shoppers the opportunity to discover the power of group buying and save money on local products and services.

KijijiDeals.ca harnesses the power of group buying for great deals on products and services, with offers from local businesses and national retailers. Every day, a new Kijiji Daily Deal will be available for group buyers to work together to unlock the deal. When the minimum number of deal buyers is reached, the deal is unlocked and shoppers are granted access to the deal.

"Nearly nine million Canadians are already visiting Kijiji.ca each month to find great deals on local products and services," said Eric Pierni, manager, Kijiji Daily Deals, Kijiji Canada. "Kijiji Daily Deals offers consumers additional savings on products and services and an easy and cost-effective way for marketers to reach millions of Canadian shoppers every day."

Kijiji has partnered with Indigo Books & Music Inc for the first ever Daily Deal. Starting November 30, shoppers across Canada will have the opportunity to purchase an online gift certificate at a 60 per cent discount: $25 gift cards will be available for $10 and redeemable on chapters.indigo.ca.

The launch of Kijiji Daily Deals comes at a time when consumers are increasingly shopping online. In fact, according to Statistics Canada's 2009 Canadian Internet Use Survey, half of Canadians reported ordering goods or services online and comScore forecasts that this holiday season, retail e-commerce is expected to grow by 11 per cent over last year. 

"Finding great deals online is no longer just a trend with Canadian consumers; it's an expectation," said Andrew Sloss, executive vice president, online, Indigo Books & Music. "The Kijiji Daily Deal gives us the unique opportunity to reach new and existing Indigo customers and offer them a significant discount just as they start their holiday shopping."

To mark the launch of Daily Deals, consumers across the country will have access to the very first Daily Deal with Indigo Books & Music. After the initial launch, Kijiji will focus on Daily Deals in three markets: Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax, with plans to expand to additional markets in the coming months.
