Kineticor commissions flare gas to power project in Saskatchewan
Flare gas used to power oil and gas operations in Saskatchewan – increasing power reliability while reducing emissions intensity
CALGARY, June 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Kineticor Resource Corp. ("Kineticor") has successfully commissioned their second flare gas to power generation project in Saskatchewan. Associated gas from oil production that had previously been flared is now being captured to create clean energy for on-site use.
"We are excited to announce that this project is in commercial operation, increasing power reliability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions for our partner's operations," Kineticor CEO, Andrew Plaunt said. "This project signifies just one of the many opportunities for Kineticor to provide oil and gas producers with an economical solution to reduce flaring."
By utilizing the flare gas to generate power on-site, power reliability is enhanced, demand on the area's electrical grid is reduced, and greenhouse gas emissions are minimized.
Currently, Saskatchewan is taking steps to reduce flaring and venting of associated gas with new regulations. Kineticor is partnering with oil and gas producers to achieve the requirements of these regulations while increasing the amount of clean energy generated in the province.
