Firm believes in supporting young people
TORONTO, June 4 /CNW/ - KPMG is the official sponsor of Canada's Top Employers for Young People competition, as well as the Top 20 Under 20 awards program, reflecting the firm's ongoing commitment to programs and benefits focused on helping young people succeed in the workplace.
The Top Employers for Young People program, organized as part of the overall Canada's Top 100 Employers awards, recognizes the employers that are Canada's leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees. Canada's Top 100 Employers competition is one of Canada's best-known annual awards, and its editorial and research partners include Mediacorp Inc. and The Globe and Mail. As the competition's sponsor, KPMG has taken itself out of consideration for this award.
The Top 20 Under 20 program is a national youth awards program that celebrates the achievements of young people. It recognizes youth whose leadership and innovation have led to the betterment of their school, community, province, and/or country.
"We've taken on this sponsorship as part of KPMG's strategy and commitment to attract the best minds, develop them to their full potential, and offer them a great career here at the firm," says Mario Paron, KPMG's Chief Human Resources Officer. "As an organization that hires a significant number of talented young people every year, we are very aware that they represent the future of not only our firm, but of business in Canada. It's important to us to be seen as an organization that offers great opportunities to young people to launch their careers and that believes in their futures."
A reception honouring the winners of the Top Employers for Young People program was held on June 1st, and framed certificates were presented to each of the winners. Winners of the Top 20 Under 20 program recently spent 4 days in Toronto at the Leadership Summit, a leadership development program that gives the winners an opportunity to visit and interact with successful organizations and their leaders.
"I believe fundamentally that young people today, at their core, are no different than people from previous generations. Quite simply, they want a great job that leads to a successful and challenging career. They're looking at their future, and they want to grow, develop, and be successful wherever they go," said Paron. "Our sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to raising the profile of the recipients of the award and we are pleased to share this very special honour with Mediacorp Inc. and The Globe and Mail."
