WINNIPEG, July 20, 2018 /CNW/ - A neighbourhood fundraiser organized by Kris Thorkelson and Tom Haughton of My Place Realty (MPR), has garnered over $1,000 for Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue.
The first ever Tenant Appreciation Day drew over 150 participants from My Place Realty's buildings, including 1310 Archibald, as well as other neighbors and members of the community.
Yewchs hot dog cart served Old Country hot dogs, chips and ice-cold drinks and cake, while children enjoyed face painting, freezies and balloons. There were even some draws for fun prizes to those who attended.
Anita from Manitoba Mutts joined in the festivities with Meadow, the alumni dog who gave cuddles to one and all.
Donations from tenants, neighbours and staff equaled $102.35 and along with My Place Realty's donation, we contributed a total of $1,102.35.
"We chose Manitoba Mutts Rescue since all of MPR buildings are pet friendly and it's such a worthy cause," owner of My Place Realty, Kris Thorkelson, explained.
The rescue organization is run 100 percent by volunteers and relies on foster homes for the animals they care for, which includes cats and dogs. They were founded in 2011 and are based in Winnipeg.
My Place Realty's Tenant Appreciation Event was held at 1274 Archibald Street in Winnipeg on July 6 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., but the good spirit was shared with others by delivering slab cakes to tenants who weren't able to make it from next door at 1310 Archibald. They also donated a slab cake, hot dogs and buns to the Lighthouse Mission after the event.
"Everyone loved the idea and enjoyed their lunch," Tom Haughton said, adding everyone was already looking forward to next year's barbecue.
The mission of My Place Realty has been centred on providing quality homes to our tenants. The company's vision is to lead the real estate industry by providing high-quality multi-family houses and apartments that people can be proud to call home.
