Automation solution will be fully integrated with power and process.
MONTREAL, Aug. 12, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order to supply a state-of-the-art automation solution for K+S Potash Canada's greenfield potash mine in Saskatchewan.
K+S Potash Canada is building a mine and production facility near Moose Jaw as part of its Legacy Project. It will be the first new potash mine built in Saskatchewan in nearly 40 years. Once up and running in late 2016, it is expected to reach the two-million-tonnes-mark of production capacity at the end of 2017.
ABB's scope of supply includes a turnkey plant wide 800xA solution, fully integrated automation, hardware, programming, installation, commissioning and life-cycle support.
"We are very pleased to provide K+S with this leading-edge technology that optimizes mine operations, including productivity, energy efficiency and safety," said Gabriel Azeroual, Vice President and General Manager of ABB in Canada's Process Automation Division. "The customer also recognized ABB's strong local engineering presence in Saskatchewan."
K+S chose ABB's System 800xA because the solution embeds both automation and power into a unified control environment with one single engineering, operations and maintenance strategy, making it ideally suited for composite mining projects with the integration of plant-wide process control and electrical power systems.
