LASALLE, QC, Feb. 20, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - La Brasserie Labatt is proud to announce that its environmental innovation efforts were rewarded at the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie du Sud-Ouest's annual Unio Recognition Evening. It is the first time that La Brasserie Labatt has been recognized at this prestigious event, whose 2012 edition was held at Cégep André-Laurendeau on Thursday evening, February 16, with more than 300 guests in attendance.
A total of 20 companies in the Grand Sud-Ouest region received awards. Luc Harrisson, La Brasserie Labatt's Manager of Environment, Health & Safety, was very pleased to be on hand to accept the award from the Chambre de commerce for the brewery's outstanding environmental performance and improved productivity. Jacques Fortin, General Manager and Commissioner of Economic Development for the Développement économique LaSalle organization and a member of the jury, said: "We had many companies deserving of distinctions this year, but Labatt clearly stood out."
In fact, in addition to the numerous honours its has received in recent years for its environmental efforts as part of its Better World program, La Brasserie Labatt's adoption of innovative management tools has produced significant reductions in the brewery's consumption of water, fuel and electricity as well as its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The company also recovers over 98% of its waste, including glass, metal, cardboard paper and spent grains.
"The environment is a subject of major concern at La Brasserie Labatt. We are constantly looking for ways to increase our productivity, while significantly reducing our ecological footprint," says Jennifer Damiani, Communications Manager. She adds: "To attain these goals, innovation and the implementation of sustainable development initiatives are essential. So we are proud today to see our efforts acknowledged before the business community of the south-west region Montreal."
La Brasserie Labatt's presence at the Unio Recognition Evening will benefit from further visibility among the 10,000 businesspeople and more than 200,000 residents of the Grand Sud-Ouest region, who will be informed via the local weekly newspapers.
