La Roche-Posay launches "Dermatologist from the Heart" program in Canada
Altruistic dermatologists across Canada eligible to win a $10,000.00 CDN grant
MONTREAL, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - La Roche-Posay today announced that its groundbreaking "Dermatologist from the Heart" initiative is beginning in Canada. First launched in France in 2011, the program will award a $10,000.00 CDN grant to the most compassionate project spearheaded by Canadian dermatologists seeking to enhance their patients' quality of life.
"With Dermatologist from the Heart, we hope to further our goal of making the invaluable skills, knowledge and expertise of dermatologists available to the broader public by encouraging and supporting generous-spirited initiatives for dedicated, community-centered dermatology outreach across Canada and the world," said Dominique Soussan, Vice-President General Manager, La Roche-Posay.
To be eligible for the $10,000.00 CDN competition, entrants must submit a grant proposal to the partnership with La Fondation La Roche-Posay, under the aegis of Fondation de France, outlining their existing or future community-minded project. The application can be submitted by a single dermatologist or a group, and the initiative must be patient-centered, run at the national level and fall under one of the following five categories:
- Information and prevention - these may include information workshops, disease-prevention advice, school initiatives and screening campaigns
- Health professional training - these may include nurses, dermatologists, other doctors or professionals
- Advice and support - such as psychological support for patients and those around them, helping patients to accept their illness, lifestyle advice and improving self-esteem
- Improving social integration - including make-up workshops, behavioral therapies, activities for children with skin diseases and group support sessions
- Improving access to healthcare - such as free screening, free consultation, physicians visits, consultations in remote areas
Each submission will be assessed by a five-member, all-Canadian judging panel of dermatologists, including: Dr Kirk Barber (Calgary), Dr. Vince Bertucci (Ontario), Dr. Marc Bourcier (Moncton), Dr. Chi-ho Hong (Surrey), and Dr. Catherine McCuaig (Quebec).
The winner, which will be based on the proposal's originality, creativity, impact on patients' quality of life, method and feasibility will receive $10,000 CDN to support their compassionate initiative.
Committed to working alongside dermatologists, La Roche-Posay created its namesake foundation in 1995 to encourage dermatological research in the fields of clinical medicine, biology and pharmacology. "Dermatologist from the Heart" is the latest initiative to join La Fondation La Roche-Posay, under the aegis of Fondation de France. The foundation has several other global community-oriented programs, which include the Atopy Schools initiative that helps atopic dermatitis patients and their families face the challenges of the disease, as well as the Corrective Make-Up Workshops, which are devoted to instilling self-confidence in patients suffering from skin lesions.
All dermatologists practicing in Canada are eligible to apply. Interested applicants must submit their succinct one (1) page grant proposal to:
