LONGUEUIL, QC, Sept. 28, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - La Tablée des Chefs will finally develop its programs in Vancouver. According to a report from the University of Toronto and B.C.'s Provincial Health Services Authority there are 500 000 people in need of food annually in B.C.. La Tablée des Chefs and involved chefs aim to help those people in need. On one side with food recovery in hotels and restaurants to cover the gaps and provide quality edible excess food from chefs to food shelters where people need it. On the other side with food education by providing teenagers in High Schools with culinary workshops called "THE BRIGADES" (Les Brigades Culinaires). This creative social business has for mission to feed people in need and develop youths' culinary education and autonomy to fight hunger.
A pilot program will be implemented in 2 Vancouver hotels in order to test the food recovery service. The pilot objective is to show how easily the Food recovery service can be implemented in any hotels and venues of the city. The Canadian Hotel Association and Green Key support La Tablée des Chefs' service.
The culinary training program "THE BRIGADES" will be launched in two Vancouver high schools: Gabrielle Roy and Panorama Ridge. Pascal Tremblay, an experimented chef who has worked for Le Cirque du Soleil and the First United Church, is the representative of La Tablée des Chefs in Western Canada and he will be the culinary coach in both schools. Kelly Warren, a Vancouver IT entrepreneur, assisted by Quebec's head office team, will also contribute to the administration and business development in order to effectively expend the activities across Western Canada.
Ricardo Larrivée is La Tablée des Chefs' spokesperson across Canada. Just like in Quebec where the organization counts on the support of renowned chefs such as Normand Laprise (TOQUÉ) and Patrice Demers (PATRICE PATISSIER), Vancouver will have its own ambassador: Chef David Hawksworth. He will help in the formation of a network of socially involved chefs and cooks and contribute to the growth of both programs; Feed and Educate.
"I'm honoured to be an ambassador for La Tablée des Chefs for Western Canada and I'm proud to support this chef-led social enterprise in the fight against hunger. Together, through the food recovery service in hotels and the culinary training program in schools, we'll encourage members of the culinary community of Vancouver to use their expertise and knowledge to make a contribution to the wellbeing of our whole community." - David Hawksworth
Long time partners of the not for profit organization, Saputo, Sobeys Québec, McCarthy Tétrault, Air Canada and Telus have also announced that they will support the Canadian expansion of the organization. The Founder and General manager of La Tablée des Chefs, Jean-François Archambault is really excited and proud of this launch: "We started developing outside Quebec in Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa but this time we will actually have a team in place and it will make a huge difference, my first trip to Vancouver 3 years ago was shocking, we need to help all Canadians if we can!!!"
