Landmines and cluster bombs are still fashionable in some countries

MONTREAL, Sept. 6, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Some fashion items are more dangerous than others… The new raising-awareness campaign from Handicap International Canada aims to draw citizens' attention through an amazing visual, using codes of beauty.

Nevertheless, by looking more closely, we discover that this "Miss" would also be a landmine victim, with her left leg amputated, as a consequence of numerous unexploded devices that are still polluting the grounds of numerous countries in the world. Every two hours, an innocent civilian is a victim of these weapons.

To avoid these dramas, the worldwide mobilization against landmines and cluster bombs must continue to call upon all Governments and armed forces to stop using these vile weapons.

In the same way, the commitment of States and humanitarian actors mustn't fail to secure and clean all contaminated areas.

And last but not least, the fight against this injustice must go on to provide survivors with the necessary assistance that will allow them to stand up and move on with their lives.

These challenges will be at the core of the 7th Pyramid of Shoes, organized by Handicap International on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Mont-Royal metro station in Montreal.
