MONTREAL, Aug. 28, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - It is with deep sadness that LaSalle College announces the death of its founder, Jean-Paul Morin, on Friday, August 24, at the age of 91 years.
Born of a humble family in eastern Montreal, Mr Morin founded LaSalle College in 1959. Thanks to his enthusiasm, persistence and generosity, the institution became one of the most noteworthy private colleges in Quebec under his guidance. A revolutionary force among private colleges, he was a leader in the development of the fashion and clothing-design industry. Said Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay: "LaSalle College has always fostered and encouraged the emerging talent, imagination and creativity of its students. Mr Morin instilled in them the qualities of initiative and good judgment, as well as a business sense, which are important for future entrepreneurs."
Few people may be aware that it was Mr Morin who came up with the design for the College logo, with the circle representing his goal of expanding beyond the borders of Quebec. This he most successfully accomplished, with seventeen institutions in a dozen countries. Mr Morin also showed vision by creating the International School of Fashion, which over the years has become the pride of Quebec as well as one of the top fashion schools in the world.
LaSalle College will honour his memory in the very school he founded with a presentation of his major accomplishments in the college's main atrium, next to the doors leading to Salle Jean-Paul-Morin, inaugurated last December. A bust of the late Mr Morin will also be installed in the atrium. "He is and will always be the undisputed master of orderliness, courage and excellence; after all, his success spanned many decades! This bust will forever more occupy a place of honour in his beloved College," proclaimed Jacques Marchand, Director-General of LaSalle College since 1983.
Mr Morin will be deeply missed by his wife Carmen, his children Nicole, France and Paul, his grandchildren Alexandre, Frédéric and Étienne, his great-granddaughers Zoé and Béatrice, his sister Cécile, and his several nephews, nieces and friends.
Those wishing to pay their last respects may do so on Tuesday, August 28, from 7 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 9 to 10 am at the Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Côte-des-Neiges Road, Montreal, H3V 1E7. A funeral will be held on August 29 at 10 am in the chapel of the funeral home, followed by interment at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery.
LaSalle College wishes to offer its deepest sympathies to family and friends of the late Mr Morin.
