National association for Licensed Producers creates focal point for industry expertise, leadership
OTTAWA, April 1, 2014 /CNW/ - New regulations governing the supply and distribution of medical cannabis are now in effect. The Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) come into effect today and will fundamentally change the way Canadians access marihuana for medical purposes by moving to a new commercial system led by approved licensed producers (LPs) regulated by Health Canada.
Today also marks the official launch of Canada's most inclusive national industry association representing Licensed Producers, the Canadian Medical Cannabis Industry Association (CMCIA).
The CMCIA and its founding members have been working alongside government throughout the transfer from the previous Medical Marijuana Access Regulations (MMAR) to the MMPR system we have today.

As more producers are licensed across the country, the CMCIA looks forward to taking the industry to new levels. Throughout the initial roll-out, CMCIA is committed to the secure and reliable access of medical cannabis for qualified patients, and the promotion of its safe and effective use.
