MONTREAL, May 8, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - As every year, the arrival of good weather heralds the departure of the Wapikoni Mobile studios to First Nations communities. The 2015 season starts today in Unamen Shipu (La Romaine).
For the twelfth consecutive year, Wapikoni Mobile is off to meet youth in 14 distant communities in Quebec, but also in Ontario and Manitoba. This year, two new communities have joined the 26 already reached since 2004: Pakua Shipi and Ekuanitshit (Mingan), on the North Shore.
From Unamen Shipu to Kitigan Zibi, via Kitcisakik, the 2015 season runs right up to October 25! Wapikoni therefore invites you to consult our Workshops Calendar (http://www.wapikoni.ca/workshops/workshop-list) to find out the dates of trainings in the communities close to you.
Led by two filmmaker mentors, a First Nations assistant trainer, a youth outreach worker and a coordinator from the community, the participants are introduced to screenplay writing, directing and to the numerous technical aspects of shooting a film (camera, sound, editing) with material of professional quality. Each participant benefits from an accompaniment adapted to his or her experience and learning pace.
This year, there will be two mobile studios which will allow First Nations youth to produce their own shorts and to record songs or musical compositions. These works, which bear witness to their realities, concerns, humour and to the incredible cultural richness of First Nations, will be proudly presented before their community during the film screening that closes each of the workshops.
Translated into different languages, some of these films will reach wide audiences throughout the world.
