Lavalife Announces Winner of Share the Love Competition

    
    Leading online dating site awards $5,000 to winning couple and $1,000 to

<p><span class="xn-location">TORONTO</span>, <span class="xn-chron">April 6</span> /CNW/ -- The first question friends and family members tend to ask when they see a happy couple is, "How did you meet?"  For many, the most intriguing part of the story is the journey and for some, the journey begins over the Internet.</p>

<p>In early February, Lavalife, Canada's leading online dating site, announced the Share the Love contest, an opportunity for onetime Lavalife members to share the success story of their online dating journey: how they met their true love online. The contest called all Lavalife members who found love online to write about their love. Lavalife members, their friends, family and romantics everywhere were encouraged to log onto Lavalife (<a href="http://www.lavalife.com/sharethelove">www.lavalife.com/sharethelove</a>) to vote for their favourite love story.</p>

<p>"This competition was about celebrating the success of our members," explains <span class="xn-person">Jason Sikora</span>, Chief Marketing Officer for Lavalife. "Nearly 60 couples entered to win and over 19,000 votes were cast. All of the stories were inspiring and memorable."</p>

<p>With nearly 5,800 votes, Terry and Laura C. of Penticton, BC won the competition.  Terry and Laura's love story began with a simple "smile" on Lavalife. In <span class="xn-chron">September 2005</span> they married. Not only did Terry find his soul mate but also found a way to save Laura's life. Nearly 10 years before they met, Laura was diagnosed with kidney disease and given 10 years to find a new kidney before having to go on dialysis. After many tests and only 12 days after their wedding celebration, Terry was given clearance that he was a match to give Laura his kidney. "None of this would have happened if it wasn't for a simple smile I sent on Lavalife," explains Terry. "We are still encouraging people to go on the site. You never know whose heart, soul or kidney could be waiting for you."  Terry and Laura plan to use the prize money for a family getaway to <span class="xn-location">New York City</span>. They never had the opportunity to travel together as a family before the transplant but now they are ready to explore the world.</p>

<p>The runner-up, with 4,400 votes is Robin W. and Brad P. of <span class="xn-location">Toronto</span>. After 11 years of marriage to her college sweetheart, Robin lost her husband to leukemia and was left heart-broken with two children ages 2 and 5. After some time, the 31-year-old widow listened to the advice of a friend and joined Lavalife to get out in the world again. "I wasn't looking for love; I was looking to not be sad," explains Robin. "I had countless smiles, emails and invitations to chat. I met a variety of individuals on the site but one caught my attention immediately. Brad was the first person I met on Lavalife." Robin and Brad married after a year-and-a-half of dating. With the help of Lavalife, Robin was able to find love a second time in her life.</p>
