Law Society Regulatory Proceedings for February 2014
TORONTO, March 5, 2014 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.
As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.
Peiman Afzalimehr (2012) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for 30 days, commencing from the termination of his current administrative suspension, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Ali Amiri (2010) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for 180 days and shall abide by specified terms.
Donald Sumner Baker (1978) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.
Bradley Franklin Berns (1989) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for five months and shall abide by specified terms.
David Charles Besant (1974) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Decision and Order of the Hearing Panel dated December 11, 2013 is stayed pending the disposition of the appeal.
Jennifer Ann Bishop* (2005) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The lawyer was found to have been incapacitated by reason of mental illness and was incapable of meeting her obligations as a lawyer licensee and was found to be currently capable of meeting her obligations due to her compliance with a continuing course of treatment. She must comply with specified conditions. *Not the same Jennifer Ann Bishop who is a partner at Miller Thomson LLP in Toronto.
John Blackburn (2010) of the City of Mississauga
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for three months, commencing at the conclusion of his current administrative suspension and must pay restitution to two clients.
John Perry Borden (1979) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was granted permission to surrender his licence to practice law within 30 days, failing which his licence is revoked.
John David Coon (2006) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: Commencing February 13, 2014 the licence of the Respondent is suspended on an interlocutory basis.
Daniel Frank Daly (1987), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was found to be ungovernable and his licence was revoked, effective immediately.
Roy Francis DMello (1998) of the Town of Oakville
Decision: The Lawyer's suspension will commence on March 1, 2014.
Frederick Simon Hawa (1988) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Mr. Hawa is to be reprimanded.
Catherine Mary Kerr (1985) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for 30 days, commencing at the conclusion of her current administrative suspension, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
Mireille Simone Jocelyne Marie Landry (1999) d'Ottawa
Décision : L'avocate doit payer une amende de 1 200 $. Le permis de l'avocate est suspendu pendant un mois. La suspension commencera le 1er mars 2014 ou à toute autre date dont les parties conviendront.
Susan Kathleen Le Blanc (2010) of the City of Belleville
Decision: The Paralegal is suspended for one month, commencing after her current administrative suspension, and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.
John Alexander Line (2007) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practice law in Ontario is revoked effective January 28, 2014.
Rose Laure Noel (2001) de Toronto
Décision : Le permis de la titulaire de permis est révoqué.
Shawn Roger Vernon Nelles of the Town of Cobourg
Decision: The P1 Licence is granted.
Michael Stephan Puskas (1996) of the City of Hamilton
Decision: The stay of the hearing panel's September 11, 2013 Order shall continue until 45 days after the release of the appeal panel's reasons, unless the specified conditions are not complied with.
Joseph Jean-Marc Rémillard (1985) de Sudbury
Décision : Que le titulaire de permis soit réprimandé et suive les conditions indiquées.
Kimberley Marguerite Roussel (2008) of the Community of Frankland
Decision: The licence of Ms. Roussel is revoked effective February 10, 2014.
Rosario Talarico (1982) of the City of Ottawa
Decision: A new hearing is ordered on all particulars in Notice of Application File No. LCN92/11.
Norma Jean Walton (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Ms. Walton's licence to practice is suspended until March 20, 2014 or until further order of this Tribunal.
