Law Society Regulatory Proceedings for January 2014

TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2014 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada regulates the lawyers and paralegals of Ontario in the public interest. The Law Society ensures that all lawyers and licensed paralegals in Ontario meet standards of learning, professional competence and professional conduct that are appropriate for the legal services provided.

As part of this mandate, the Law Society's Hearing and Appeal Panels recently heard the following matters. Hearing and Appeal Panels are responsible for determining the appropriate disposition of cases.

William John Franklin Bishop (1973) of the City of Kingston
Decision: The stay of the hearing panel's June 19, 2013 Decision and Order is extended to the determination of the appeal or such other date as reflected in the appeal panel's reasons.

Jay Rudolph Bradley (2008) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The proceeding was converted into an invitation to attend and the application was dismissed.

Robert Gordon Durno (1974) of the City of Toronto.
Decision: Costs of the appeal of $10,000 were awarded to the Law Society.

David Victor Eisenkrein (1993) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.

Jodi Lynne Feldman (1984), of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer was suspended for four months, commencing on a date to be determined.

Kenneth James (1969) of the City of Vaughan.
Decision: The Lawyer's appeal was allowed in part, and the Law Society was awarded costs of $12,270.

Eric Adam Lecker (1988) of the Town of Ajax
Decision: The Lawyer was reprimanded.

Aaron Brent Lundrigan (2009) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for 1 month commencing at the conclusion of his current administrative suspension and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.

Helen Patricia Luzius (1988) of the Town of Penetanguishene
Decision: The proceeding was converted to an invitation to attend and the application dismissed in its entirety.

Warren Augustine Lyon (2007) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended until such time as he complies with the Hearing Panel's Order of November 12, 2013.

James Maurice Melnick (2013) of the City of London.
Decision: The Lawyer's request for costs was dismissed.

Yaroslav Mikitchook (1974) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is granted permission to surrender his licence to practice law in Ontario within 30 days of January 15, 2014, failing which his licence is revoked.

Michael James Munro (1996) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for 45 days commencing January 17, 2014 and continuing indefinitely until specified conditions are met.

Robert Joseph Potomski (2008) of the City of Windsor
Decision: Paragraph 4 of the hearing panel's May 13, 2013 order, varied by the hearing panel's August 30, 2013 order, is stayed until further order of this panel.

Michael Stephen Puskas (1996) of the City of Hamilton
Decision: Paragraphs 1 and 5 of the September 11, 2013 order are stayed until the hearing of the appeal, unless specified conditions are not met.

Matthew Roland Riddell of the City of Toronto
Decision: Costs of the appeal of $15,000 were awarded to the Law Society.

Abram Morris Szpirglas (1975) of the City of Hamilton
Decision: The Lawyer is suspended for two months commencing on February 1, 2014.

Norma Jean Walton (1995) of the City of Toronto
Decision: Commencing January 13, 2014, the Lawyer shall comply with specified conditions restricting her practice.

Mitchell Lewis Wolfe (1979) of the City of Toronto
Decision: The Lawyer's licence to practise law is revoked as of January 7, 2014.
